About the NLCThe Northern Land Council (NLC) is responsible for assisting Aboriginal people in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their lands and seas under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (Northern Territory) 1976 (Cth) and the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).Nearly 50 years on we continue to serve over 50,000 Aboriginal people of the Top End and remain committed to enhancing Aboriginal peoples social, political and economic participation by supporting their aspirations and amplifying their voices on a range of issues impacting on their lands, seas, culture and communities. About the RoleThis position is responsible for providing day to day administrative support to the Katherine Branch in order to effectively and efficiently service the needs of the Branch and the Northern Land Council (NLC). The successful candidate must be willing to enrol in a Certificate III in Business or a related qualification and be committed to learning on and off the job. ResponsibilitiesLearn to provide, and ultimately provide, general administrative support to members of the Katherine office. This may include tasks such as raising purchase orders, filing, records management and the provision of logistical support.Learn and perform the duties related to the role of a receptionist such as distributing incoming and outgoing correspondence, management of phone calls and in person enquiries as well as the monitoring of appointment/diary schedules including the coordination of travel arrangements as required.Actively participate in on-the-job training by assisting with the implementation of Regional Development projects in accordance with established procedures.Complete relevant workbooks as required for the qualification the trainee is enrolled in (e.g. Certificate III in Business).Undertake all work in a safe manner and report any maintenance requirements, hazards, accidents, injuries or incidents in accordance with NLC policy to ensure all risks are mitigated appropriately. About youTo thrive in this role you will have:Significant demonstrated knowledge, understanding and respect of Indigenous Australian culture, customs and society and the ability to gain and maintain credibility with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations to ensure all work produced and undertaken is culturally safe and appropriate.Good attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to work with a range of computer software products, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the ability to learn to use Microsoft Outlook for emailing and calendar/diary management.Reliability and the ability to ensure the confidentiality of information when dealing with any verbal or written correspondence or information including internal HR or legal matters.The ability to confidently and respectfully communicate with people across the organisation as well as Traditional Owners, our constituents and members of the general public.Well-developed interpersonal as well as written and oral communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.Possession of a "C" class drivers licence. Remuneration and Benefits:Full-Time Fixed-Term Contract (12 Months)Location: KatherineSalary: $48,072 - $48,897AllowancesFBT exempt salary packaging benefits pay13.5% superannuation contribution5 weeks annual leave & 17.5% annual leave loading Cultural knowledge and lived experience is central to the work that we do.
