About the NLCThe Northern Land Council (NLC) was established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act in 1976, to assist Aboriginal people in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their traditional lands, waters and seas. Nearly 50 years on we continue to serve over 50,000 Aboriginal people of the Top End and remain committed to enhancing Aboriginal peoples social, political and economic participation by supporting their aspirations and amplifying their voices on a range of issues impacting on their lands, seas, culture and communities. About the RoleThis position is located in the Numbulwar Community located on the mouth of the Rose River in South Eastern Arnhem Land of the Northern Territory. It is responsible for coordinating the Numbulwar Numburindi Ranger Group in advancing the objectives of the Traditional Owners in managing their land and sea country. The Rangers work on implementing the plan of management for the South East Arnhem Land Indigenous Protected Area.The primary objective of the Ranger Coordinator is to supervise, develop, lead and inspire a team of local rangers to play a vital part in land and sea management on country. This typically includes fire management, feral weed and animal control and cultural site management activities.ResponsibilitiesProvide supervision and logistical support to the ranger group to ensure the effective and efficient management of caring for country activities across the South East Arnhem Land Indigenous Protected Area work area.Through consultation with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal land and sea managers develop and implement annual work plans that identify priority natural and cultural resource management activities to best meet their caring for country aspirations.Ensure compliance with all government and fee for service contractual requirements. This includes monitoring progress against the annual project plans and reporting.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Aboriginal communities, NLC staff and other partner agencies to identify and develop cultural, land and sea management opportunities.About youTo thrive in this role you will have:Demonstrated understanding of, and interest in, the lived experiences of Aboriginal people in the NLC region.Demonstrated high level cross-cultural, interpersonal and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively liaise, engage and coordinate across an organisation and to build productive working relationships with work colleagues, constituents and external stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to live in, and supervise and manage work teams, in a remote location with minimal supervision to ensure effective leadership and management of the ranger groups. This requires high-level problem-solving skills as well as experience in dispute resolution/conflict management, community liaison as well as flexibility and the ability to carry out physical work in remote Northern Territory settings.Tertiary qualifications in natural resource management/business social science, community development, public policy or related discipline or ability to rapidly acquire and/or extensive relevant experience to enable effective undertaking of all role requirements.An ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people, and a knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Caring for Country Management issues and constraints affecting their involvement in land management.Demonstrated experience in asset management and basic maintenance of equipment.Demonstrated experience or ability to work with Aboriginal communities and coordinate on-ground natural, cultural or agricultural resource management projects to meet funding requirements as well as community expectations.Remuneration and Benefits:Full-Time Permanent contractLocation: NumbulwarSalary: $76,431 - $89,312AllowancesFBT exempt salary packaging benefits pay13.5% superannuation contribution5 weeks annual leave & 17.5% annual leave loadingCultural knowledge and lived experience is central to the work that we do.
