Would you like to work for one of the largest and oldest Indigenous organisations in Australia which provides services to around 50,000 Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory?About the NLCWe are responsible for assisting Aboriginal people in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their lands and seas.  Our vision is to ensure that Aboriginal people benefit socially, culturally and economically from the secure possession of their land, waters and seas. About the RoleAs a Regional Anthropologist based in Nhulunbuy, you will coordinate and undertake a full range of Anthropological duties including field research, site surveys and report writing to ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is held by the Northern Land Council in relation to Traditional Owners and their land interests.ResponsibilitiesUndertake Anthropological research including desktop and field research into the Native Title Rights and interests of claimant groups within the NLC’s jurisdiction to ensure regional consistency and future-proof claims.Prepare anthropological advice about Native Title Holders and potential Native Title Holders to support the NLC’s native title practice including pre-determination, post determination and future acts practice.Coordinate and manage research work by anthropological staff and consultants into the Native Title rights and interests of Aboriginal groups within the NLC’s jurisdiction within required timeframes.About youTo thrive in this role you will have:Significant demonstrated knowledge, understanding and respect of Indigenous Australian culture, customs and society including the current social issues and their impact on aboriginal people in the Northern Territory.Minimum Honours degree in anthropology or related discipline; or demonstrable, applied experience in a similar industry/ context.A good working knowledge or the ability to rapidly acquire of the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976, Native Title Act 1993 and Northern Territory Sacred Sites Act 1989, in relation to the statutory functions of the NLC.Remuneration and Benefits:Full-Time Permanent roleLocation: NhulunbuySalary: $75,006 - $101,668 per annumAllowances, e.g. district and airfare allowancesFBT exempt salary packaging benefits pay13% superannuation contribution5 weeks annual leave & 17.5% annual leave loadingAboriginal or Torres Strait Islander People are strongly encouraged to apply and special measures may be applied.COVID-19 VaccinationsPlease note COVID vaccinations are mandatory for all NLC staff.How to Apply:A full Position Description may be obtained by clicking on this vacancy on our website https://jobs.nlc.org.au/ .
