Our vision is to ensure that Aboriginal people benefit socially, culturally and economically from the secure possession of their land, waters and seas.  About the RoleThe NLC is seeking three experienced lawyers to drive strategic legal project management and provide high quality advice and representation in relation to resources and energy matters within the jurisdiction of the NLC. The main responsibilities of each role include:Working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the effective performance of the NLC’s statutory functions under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (ALRA), the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA), and other relevant Commonwealth and Northern Territory statutes.Providing legal advice and representation to Aboriginal groups in the negotiation and implementation of minerals exploration and mining agreements, petroleum exploration and production agreements, and Indigenous Land Use Agreements concerning major projects on land or waters subject to the NTA.Providing legal advice and representation to the NLC in relation to the negotiation and implementation of exploration and mining agreements under Part 4 of the ALRA.Strategically managing projects, including by coordinating and facilitating consultations across the Top End of the Northern Territory. About YouTo thrive in this role, you will have:Qualified as a legal practitioner and be admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia.A minimum of 4 years’ post admission experience in legal practice (an outstanding candidate with lesser post admission experience may be considered).Significant commercial and corporate experience, and energy and resources experience.Highly developed oral and written communication skills.Possession of a "C" Class licence and ability to operate 4WD vehicles.Preparedness to travel extensively to regional and remote locations in the   Northern Territory to confer with constituents. Remuneration and Benefits:Contract Term: Two yearsLocation: DarwinSalary: $116,827 to $125,190 plus allowancesFBT exempt salary packaging benefits pay13% superannuation contribution5 weeks annual leave (pro rata) & 17.5% annual leave loading We strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply. How to Apply:A full Position Description may be obtained by clicking on this vacancy on our website https://jobs.nlc.org.au/ .
