The Northern Land Council (NLC) is seeking talented legal professionals to make a meaningful impact and provide expert advice and representation on vital issues affecting land, water, and Aboriginal community rights in the Northern Territory.
About the Role
As an NLC lawyer, you'll play a key role in advancing Aboriginal land rights to support Traditional Owners and constituents in the acquisition, use, and management of their lands and waters while delivering social, economic and cultural benefits.
You will work in a large diverse legal practice with multidisciplinary teams that provide advice and oversight of the NLC’s obligations regarding mineral and petroleum exploration, production and associated activities as they relate to the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act and the Native Title Act, conduct land rights and native title claims, negotiates agreements and pursues litigation where appropriate.
Assigned to a specific practice area, you’ll have the chance to collaborate across all legal teams, working alongside Anthropologists and other professionals gaining rich and varied experience.
What You Will Bring:
You will bring exceptional cross-cultural, interpersonal, and communication skills, combined with the ability to work collaboratively with a multitude of stakeholders to build strong, productive relationships and drive impactful engagement. Proven experience in property law, native title, or environmental law combined with a collaborative mindset, a commitment to social justice and strong advocacy and negotiation skills will sit you in good stead to thrive in this dynamic and diverse environment.
