Our vision is to ensure that Aboriginal people benefit socially, culturally and economically from the secure possession of their land, waters and seas.About the RoleThe Caring for Country Branch works with Traditional Owners and other relevant Aboriginal people to support them with the management of their customary land and sea estates in accordance with their priorities and aspirations. The program is committed to progressing the capacity of the Aboriginal ranger groups to safely and effectively manage fire management issues on Aboriginal Land Trusts. This position will coordinate the planning and implementation of strategic fire management programs on Aboriginal land as required across the NLC region in collaboration with Traditional Owners and other key stakeholders.About youTo thrive in this role you will have:Significant demonstrated knowledge, understanding and respect of Indigenous Australian culture, customs and society and the ability to gain and maintain credibility with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations to ensure all work produced and undertaken is culturally safe and appropriate.Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent experience.Experience in facilitating participatory planning to enhance community engagement in natural resource management.The ability to meet the rigours of remote fieldwork, carrying out fire management duties by helicopter, heavy lifting and other manual tasks as well as experience with basic maintenance of equipment for remote work and fire management.Remuneration and Benefits:Full Time, permanent contractSalary SPO ($90,614 – $101,668) per annum plus allowancesFBT exempt salary packaging benefits13% superannuation contribution5 weeks annual leave & 17.5% annual leave loading Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander People are strongly encouraged to apply and special measures may be applied.COVID-19 VaccinationsPlease note COVID vaccinations are mandatory for all NLC staff.
