About the NLCThe Northern Land Council (NLC) was established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act in 1976, to assist Aboriginal people in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their traditional lands, waters and seas. Nearly 50 years on we continue to serve over 36,000 Aboriginal people of the Top End and remain committed to enhancing Aboriginal peoples social, political and economic participation by ensuring their voices are heard on a range of issues impacting on their lands, seas and communities. About the RoleThis position is located in Nhulunbuy and is responsible for the effective implementation and on-going management of NLC projects and programs in the East Arnhem region. This position will report directly to the Regional Manager, East Arnhem.ResponsibilitiesManage and coordinate consultations, meeting logistics and seek instructions from Traditional Owners and other Aboriginal groups relating to the use and management of their land, as required under the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 (ARLA).Assist in the coordination and management of negotiations between Aboriginal traditional owners, Aboriginal groups and third parties interested in the exploration and/or development activities on Aboriginal land in the relevant region.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with NLC staff and external stakeholders in promoting the interests of the NLC.Work closely with the Regional Coordinator, Project Coordinators and Manager to manage priorities and facilitate the effective implementation of NLC projects and programs within the region. About youTo thrive in this role you will have:Demonstrated understanding of, and interest in, the lived experiences of Aboriginal people in the NLC region.Demonstrated high level cross-cultural, interpersonal and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively liaise, engage and coordinate across an organisation and to build productive working relationships with work colleagues, constituents and external stakeholders.Demonstrated leadership and experience in implementing project/program management activities to a high standard, with an ability to harness resources to effectively plan, coordinate and manage associated activities.High level conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and a capacity to effectively manage staff in a small team environment, including delineating work priorities and delegating tasks and identifying staff training and development needs.Sound writing skills and the ability to produce clear, concise and informative high-level documents for a range of purposes to suit the intended audience.Sound financial management skills processes and procedures, appropriate confidentiality security of sensitive information. Remuneration and Benefits:Full-Time Permanent contractLocation: NhulunbuySalary: $69,203- $85,854AllowancesFBT exempt salary packaging benefits pay13.5% superannuation contribution5 weeks annual leave & 17.5% annual leave loadingCultural knowledge and lived experience is central to the work that we do.
