About the NLCThe Northern Land Council (NLC) was established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act in 1976, to assist Aboriginal people in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their traditional lands, waters and seas. Nearly 50 years on we continue to serve over 50,000 Aboriginal people of the Top End and remain committed to enhancing Aboriginal peoples social, political and economic participation by supporting their aspirations and amplifying their voices on a range of issues impacting on their lands, seas, culture and communities. About the RoleProvide technical advice to the NLC and to traditional Aboriginal owners and those with Native Title rights and interests in the area of the Northern Land Council in relation to projects and tenements relevant to the Minerals and Energy sectors.ResponsibilitiesSimultaneously manage multiple projects including:Provide technical assessment of minerals and energy applications, work programs, mine closure plans and other relevant documents.Administer granted titles and applications for minerals & energy exploration and production in accordance with the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (ALRA) & Native Title Act 1993 (NTA), including planning, scheduling, facilitation of on-country consultations.Provide a high standard of budgeting and other financial services, including for the recovery of costs associated with your allocated projects.Prepare information, for NLC Anthropology, Regional Development, Legal, Community Planning & development Branches as required to facilitate their engagement with minerals and energy projects.Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including government agencies and minerals and energy companies and their representative bodies.Facilitate and provide objective liaison and consultation with traditional Aboriginal owners and native title holders.Participate in the negotiation process with proponents for the preparation of exploration and mining / production agreements; andMonitor and audit work programs, exploration and other mining activities as provided for under relevant NLC exploration and mining/production agreements.Monitor and review exploration and mining/production reports and project activities for compliance with the ALRA and NTA.Research, review and comment on NLC submissions in response to regulatory, policy and other reforms and conditions of approval for minerals and energy projects as relevant to the NLC.About youTo thrive in this role, you will have:Knowledge and understanding of environmental management systems and principles.Skills in Environmental Auditing or a willingness to undertake Environmental Auditor Training.Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to set priorities, manage multiple deadlines and effectively deliver tasks on time.Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, including but not limited to reports, planning, presentations and budgeting.Remuneration and Benefits:Full-Time, Fixed Term 2 year contractLocation: DarwinSalary: $92,336 - $120,387AllowancesFBT exempt salary packaging benefits pay13.5% superannuation contribution5 weeks annual leave & 17.5% annual leave loadingCultural knowledge and lived experience is central to the work that we do.
